All the ports are USB 3.0 and the drive was not detected with them too .The other ports are working (i use them for pen-drives ,mouse etc) ...the external drive works Right click on the drive and set the new partition and then format it and give it a drive letter. Previously the motherboard of the PC was ASUS p4S133 having some power problems but worked for 6 years with that problems and finally has bean dead after 15 years working , More about the author

Have you ever had to do any of the things here to fix an unrecognized external drive?
I followed your advice step by step and lost all of the files on my external drive, only THEN to see the warning that this would happen.
If you need support for bigger files, then you should use the exFAT format.
If your drive is not detected it may be because it is turned OFF in System Setup.
I've been to probably 20 sites, even Microsoft and Windows troubleshooting, AND Sony.

Can you detect it then? This problem can be caused by partition issues on your external drive, using the wrong file system, dead USB ports, driver issues in Windows, or other problems.
