Can't Access External Hard Drive


After some mucking around (i.e., trying different USB ports, shutting down and powering up the hd and/or laptop) it finally listed as a drive on my computer. Does anyone here now what to do? Everyone else kept saying the same thing that wasn't working. Randomly a few days later it started working again and all my data was there. This problem can be caused by partition issues on your external drive, using the wrong file system, dead USB ports, driver issues in Windows, or other problems. any suggestions? This program does have an option to "recover" the drive by copying all the data to another disk, however I don't have another drive with enough room to do this at it was preformatted to FAT32 system.
