I went into the BIOS and changed the SATA RAID/AHCI mode from disabled to AHCI and saved the changes. I went into properties and looked at its status and it gave me "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required... sometimes I have a good hour.. I have taken the computer apart and put it all back again, just to make sure, no effect. Worked with MicroSoft Windows tech support about locking up and it reloaded Windows Vista Home Premium x64. I then powered it back up and went into the BIOS and changed the AHCI enabled back to disabled and saved the change.

Thanks for all your help, it was a case of trial and error based on your advice. I had the same issue just recently, a piece of plastic near the power plug at the HDD came off and the system couldn't find the drive sometimes. After you replace it and get the system running, you can hook it back up as a second drive and if you're lucky it will be recognized and you could try this contact form Who would have thought of that???
