- Main point: if a cable from modem to computer gets you online, you probably have something amiss on your wireless router rather than your computer (as BOTH OSs can't connect wirelessly).
- I can neither ping some webserver, nor the gateway in the network, but it's still working perfectly fine under Windows.

I'd say it is purely coincidental that your internet went down after booting into Windows then Ubuntu and would perhaps start investigating router and modem. This confirms that there is no problem with the router or modem (I use a university T3 connection-sometimes go to 8 MB/sec!!!). You can resolved this by adding a header to your DNS configuration with by editing the file /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head and appending the text: nameserver 184.108.40.206 Then restart your network with one of http://mozrc.com/not-working/wired-connection-not-working.php I can get the internet while I'm using Windows 7 on my C drive but not in XP.
