I had exactly the same issue. I do have an other SATA drive lying around (i have no clue where it came from xD) but i do not believe it works. It does depend where you live I suppose.

Sometimes a loose cable can trigger hardware related errors. Sometimes with minidumps, sometimes without. Only one thing left that I can think of. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up. So...when you install the drivers and the video card becomes active, you have crashes. Then I updated the driver on it, rebooted and ran a few programs as well again, still no hang/BSOD.
